Curly Hair Specialist in Salford & Manchester

A curly hair specialist who has sat in your chair

At Avesta Hair in Salford, Manchester, curly, coily, wavy and afro hair is never an afterthought. It is the hair our founder, Anita, grew up with, struggled with and spent years learning to understand.

If you have ever walked into a salon and felt the chair wasn't meant for you, this page is for you. Our curly hair specialists in Manchester know that every curl has a story, and we take the time to hear yours.

Anita's story: from curly hair struggles to curly hair specialist

"I didn't choose curly hair as a specialism. My curls chose it for me."

Growing up with curly hair, I never found a salon that understood it. I didn't know which products to use, I didn't understand my own hair, and I dreaded every appointment. I started hairdressing at 13, partly to find the answers nobody could give me.

What I found changed everything. I wasn't the only one. So many people with curly and textured hair had the same story, the same fear of the salon chair.

While working in Preston, I travelled to Manchester to train specifically in textured, curly and afro hair. It took me between five and ten years to become a true specialist, because no two textures are the same. Nearly 30 years on, it is still the work I care about most.

Why curly, coily and afro hair needs a specialist

Curly hair is not straight hair with a bend in it. It grows differently, behaves differently and needs to be cut, coloured and cared for differently.

  • Shape decides the curl. Curly hair grows from an oval-shaped follicle. The more oval the shape, the tighter the curl.
  • Tighter curls mean drier hair. Natural oils struggle to travel down a coiled strand, so curly hair needs far more hydration.
  • One head, many textures. It is common to have two or three different curl patterns on one head, and each needs its own approach.
  • Curl pattern is everything. Reading the curl correctly shapes every decision, from where we cut to which products we use.

This is why curly hair is one of the hardest skills in hairdressing to master, and why a curly hair specialist makes such a difference.

What goes wrong for curly clients in other salons

Many of the curly clients who come to our Salford salon arrive carrying a bad experience: a bad curly haircut, frizz, dryness or damaged curls. We hear the same stories again and again:

  • A cut that treated curls like straight hair, leaving shapes that shrank, puffed or sat unevenly
  • Colour that left curls dry, damaged or lifeless
  • Walking out unhappy, and too disheartened to say so
  • Being turned away altogether because the salon "doesn't do curly hair"

These experiences stay with people. They are the reason Anita threw herself into curly hair, and the reason our team takes curly appointments so seriously.

Our curly cut, colour and care approach: listen first

You have been looking after your curls for years. You know whether your hair loves a gel, a mousse or a cream, and whether you prefer a defined cast or a soft, fluffy finish. We respect that knowledge.

  • A thorough consultation. We put you at ease, listen to your story and learn what has and hasn't worked for you.
  • Understanding your products. We look at your current routine before suggesting any changes.
  • Strand testing. We test before we colour or treat, so there are no surprises.
  • Reading every texture. We map the curl patterns across your whole head, not just one section.
  • Expert input, never a takeover. We add our knowledge to yours. We never tell you everything you do is wrong.

The result is curly hair that feels like yours, only healthier, more defined and easier to live with.

Every chair is your chair

When Anita opened Avesta Hair in Salford, she welcomed clients of every background, culture and hair type. She heard her own story in theirs: people who had never felt welcome in a salon.

"I never want a client to walk out of my salon feeling the chair wasn't meant for them."

That promise shapes everything at Avesta Hair in Salford. From the moment you arrive, the whole team comes to say hello, so you are never a stranger. Avesta is gender-neutral and LGBTQIA+ friendly, with a private space for guests observing hijab. Every stylist is trained to the same high standard in curly hair, so whoever you see, you are in expert curly hands.

A whole team of curly hair specialists, trained by an educator

At many salons, curly hair depends on one person. If they're away, booked up or leave, you're back to square one. Not at Avesta Hair.

Anita is a hairdresser and a qualified educator, and she personally trains every member of the team in curly, coily and afro hair. Each stylist learns to read curl patterns, cut curls to suit their texture, colour textured hair safely and run a proper curly consultation.

"Inclusivity isn't just how I treat my clients. It's making sure every hairdresser understands curly hair, so no one is ever turned away again."

That means you get the same specialist curly haircut, curly colour and curl care with whichever of our Salford stylists you book.

Curls can be coloured, repaired and lengthened too. Our colour correction specialists fix colour that has gone wrong on curly and textured hair, and our hair extensions specialists add length and fullness to every curl pattern.

Curly or straight, it's your journey

Embracing your curls is beautiful, and so is choosing to wear your hair straight. Whatever you want, our job is to understand your hair well enough to get you there safely.

Curly clients often arrive with a big story and a lot of feelings attached to their hair. We give you the time, patience and understanding you deserve. Our aim is simple: you leave feeling empowered, beautiful and proud of your hair.
